Like, every morning I get up and put on clothes wondering if looking like a teenage boy is gonna result in fewer uncomfortable interactions than looking like a 26yo woman, while also trying to match my clothes to my nails, while always already running late, and I don’t want to be a brain in a jar on the internet cos I love food & dancing & yr skin on mine but I also don’t know if these wincing moments are how I feel about my body or just how it’s interpreted in a category or series I didn’t choose or define, and you can’t walk into a room without culture to think about yourself independent if significance so instead I have a lot of blogs and feelings and feminism is pretty inadequate but something, and writing is one way of being present but invisible.

1. I bought single-serve sake at an Asian grocery store the other day - it’s in a glass cup sealed with a aluminium pull-top lid and then a plastic cap over the top of that. Consequently, I now have a panda glass! Definitely going to go back and collect the set of novelty printed tumblers. Yum.

2. You can’t really see it because my webcam is terrible, but my nails are “tudor city teal” and perf.

3. I’ve been through a lot of stuff in the last twelve months but things are pretty good right now. Cheers to that.

WHO CARES WHAT YOU LIKE, BRO?!

ok so as a woman who is usually read as “pretty confident, potentially straight”, I have had a lot of run-ins with this kind of dude, and in my experience by “confident” they usually mean:

- “sassy, playfully bossy”, which at the end of the day is just a Type like any other, and not necessarily any more progressive than preferring someone quiet and humble

and/or

- “able to assert her own needs, not someone who needs me to be particularly sensitive or aware”, which, look — it’s fine if you find it hard to date people who struggle to assert themselves, that’s kind of fair enough, I’m the same, I need people to be pretty direct, otherwise I feel like they resent me — but the flip side of “I like confident women” is “I don’t like women whose confidence actually has been shredded by patriarchy”, and if you think that’s helpful in any way I would strongly encourage you to reassess your attitude towards women

and you usually have to be confident while being thin, femme, hairless, etc — the whole “I want a woman who isn’t afraid to gain a bit of weight — but doesn’t” thing

and they will always attempt to get you into an argument about something actually really important because they “like to argue”, it’s fun for them, they’re not listening, they don’t care, it’s just a game, it’s clearly hot for them

like

it’s revolting, and all my women friends who have the trifecta of characteristics feminine/conspicuously stubborn/articulate know exactly the kind of guy I’m talking about whenever this comes up

But IMHO some of these righteous white “allies” probably need to sit down for a second and ask yourself why you think a bunch of indignant white people appropriating black anger is better than a bunch of ignorant white people appropriating black culture.
